Sigma Pi Fraternity - Alpha Pi Chapter - Arkansas State University

Alpha Pi

Alpha Pi Chapter of Sigma  Pi Fraternity, International, was born from a local fraternity, Zeta Tau Zeta.  Alpha Pi chapter's story is one of intrigue, passion, and some would say, downright espionage.  Two local chapters were locked in a race to become the first national fraternity on campus at Arkansas A&M.  When members of Zeta Tau Zeta learned of the date that their competitors were to become initiated members of their colonized organization, they managed to contact Sigma Pi headquarters.  Members from Sigma Pi headquarters then drove from Vincennes, Indiana to initiate the local pledges.  In this way, Sigma Pi became the first national fraternity on the campus of what is now Arkansas State University on March 7, 1948--six days before what is now Pi Kappa Alpha finalized their membership and became ASU's second national fraternity.
